Dear Colleagues,
The World Institute of Pain, an international
organization
of pain medicine physicians, believes in the unity of brethren men and
woman who, as doctors of medicine, have pledged their lives to the
service of
humanity; forsaking considerations of religion, nationality, race, party
politics, social standing or any other factor to intervene between the
duty of
the doctor to patient; choosing conscience, dignity, and respect for
human
life; and by all means the power within to maintain the honour and noble
traditions of the medical profession. Such are part of the principles of
the Declaration
of Geneva, adopted by the General Assembly of the World Medical
Association
of Geneva.
This is not to say that as a society we are
not
challenged
by global issues of crisis, polarity, and divisiveness; acts of war and
terrorism; and threats to civil liberties and mankind. In choosing above
all to
honour our pledge as doctors of medicine, the World Institute of Pain
believes
that more goodwill can be done through steadfast dedication to the
humanitarian
goals of medicine. We understand there will be restrictions that inhibit
participation in the ISRAPM Congress, which WIP endorses in concept for
the purpose of physician education but does not sponsor or benefit
financially from. For the physicians who are able to participate in
this international congress,
the
benefits of the physician educational experience in the areas of
regional
anesthesia and pain medicine will benefit all patients in the
represented countries. The health of all patients is our first
consideration.
Best regards,
WORLD INSTITUTE OF PAIN
