World Institute of Pain

A Message from WIP President, Prof. Dominic A. Hegarty

May 19, 2023

Dear Friends,

It is a great honour and privilege to serve the WIP community as your President. I am fully aware of the legacy, tradition, and ambition that WIP carries, and I am committed to continuing the work of those who came before me. Having been directly involved with the WIP board for nearly 10 years, I have witnessed numerous changes, developments, and challenges. I will bring this wealth of experience to my role, aiming to leave WIP in a better state when I hand over the reins to Prof. Miles Day in 2025.

My vision for WIP is simple: to become the global leader in interventional pain education and to promote excellence in pain management, ensuring that pain physicians can provide the best possible care to all patients. We will achieve this through educational programs, conferences, workshops, webinars, industry support, examinations, and fostering a sense of community. Our goal is to increase our community of FIPPs & CIPPs by 30% over the next two years, expanding our reach into regions and territories where pain management is needed. We need your help to accomplish this. Your support in attending meetings, teaching, promoting, and acting as loyal ambassadors is crucial.

In the upcoming six months, we have ample learning opportunities. In August, we will hold our Budapest Conference and examinations. This will be followed by our 12th World Congress in Antalya, Turkey, from October 28th to 30th. Our team is working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure you have one of the best experiences. This congress will be the largest in-person WIP event since the time Ireland hosted WIP in Dublin, and I wholeheartedly encourage you to join us for this exciting academic and cultural celebration. With the ongoing developments in Twainian, USA, and Hungary, 2023 promises to be truly amazing.

I congratulate those appointed to the new Executive Board, and I am confident that they, like their predecessors, will strive to support WIP members in the best possible way.

Please continue to support WIP, as the legacy depends on you.

Regards,

Prof. Dominic A. Hegarty
President, WIP
